I'm fundraising for Prevent Breast Cancer
I am fundraising for a charity particularly close to my heart called Prevent Breast Cancer. This charity is the only UK charity that is solely committed to predicting and preventing breast cancer.
The BRCA2 mutation runs in my family and it causes an increased risk of breast cancer in men and women as well as other types of cancer. This mutation has not only affected my mother and auntie, having both had double mastectomy surgeries, but it also has the potential to affect my family in the future. This charity recognises the potential impact that research into prevention could have on families like mine.
Personally, I am unsure if I have inherited this gene mutation and plan to be tested later this year when I turn 18. If I do have this mutation, there is a 50% chance that I pass it on to my children, as well as significantly increasing my risk of breast cancer and pancreatic cancer.
